Cauliflower Steaks

Let’s be real, I love food just for the pure joy of it. But if a recipe is going to earn a permanent spot on my site, it has to do double duty. It needs to taste incredible but it also needs to offer support for female metabolism and hormone health.

Take this cauliflower: when you slice it thick, roast it until it’s deeply caramelised and load it with creamy tahini, bright pomegranate and fresh herbs, you aren’t just making a gorgeous plant-based dinner. You’re giving your body the exact tools it needs to function at its best.

Here is the actual clinical breakdown of why this plate is a heavy hitter for female health:

Why I love it:

  • Cauliflower: Cruciferous vegetables are non-negotiable for female physiology. Why? Thanks to a naturally occurring compound called DIM. You see, your liver is responsible for processing and clearing out used hormones (specifically oestrogen) and when that clearance system is overloaded, you feel it viscerally in your cycle, mood, skin and energy. It also exacerbates many hormonal conditions including PMOS, Endo, Fibroids + Perimenopause. DIM acts as a direct support system for your liver, helping it bind to excess hormones and safely sweep them out. It’s a really effective way to keep your system running efficiently, while the dense structural fibre in cauliflower keeps your blood sugar (and therefore, metabolism) stable.

  • Tahini: Women’s bodies fundamentally require dense, high-quality fats to operate well. Tahini (crushed sesame seeds) delivers a heavy hitting dose of healthy fats alongside critical minerals like magnesium and calcium. These nurtients truly support your nervous system out of a chronic stress response, as they provide the building blocks for your hormones and ensure your brain registers that you are satiated.

  • Pomegranate: Pomegranate seeds are very high in polyphenols and Vitamin C, which support a targeted defense against cellular stress and inflammation (happy skin, weight, metabolism, hormone health + fertility).
